About this image

Here is an image of comet C/2019 Y4 (ATLAS) captured on the evening of Saturday 3rd April 2020 at around 21:00 UT whilst the comet was moving through the relatively faint stars of Camelopardalis. The nearby Moon was at 66%. The improved clarity of the sky was really noticeable.

I captured 10 sequences of RGB subs, each of five-minutes exposures, which were sufficient to produce a very slight elongation of the comet core.

The data were calibrated in Deep Sky Stacker and registered and separated into an image of the starfield and an image of the comet in PixInsight using Warren Keller's method. The images were then recombined in Photoshop.
