About this image

This comet certainly shows interesting structure in the inner coma.

The inset is the result of subtracting a modelled rotationally symmetric coma of the form A * exp(B * log(r)) from the original image. The centre of symmetry is the photocentre which is indicated by the red pixel. The comet has looked like this for a while with a sunward pointing broad fan that curves around and back down the tail and a very strong tailward jet.
