About this image

After being plagued with cloudy skies for the past two weeks the night of Jun 21/22 was an opportunity to obtain more astrometry of comet C/2017 T2, although bands of high thin cloud were a nuisance.

Whilst I was aligning on the comet I received text mesages alerting me to a display of NLC low down on the NE horizon. My view of that part of the sky is obstructed, but I quickly ran indoors and set up my DSLR and interval timer on the window sill in my front bedroom to monitor the NW to N horizon.

It took 1s exposures every minute from 22:41 to 00:15 UT, facing NNW. A sample image is attached and a timelapse video can be downloaded from here The early stages show the wispy NLC passing in front of Capella (due North).
