Jupiter CH4 comparison 12th July 2020
About this image
More testing a ZWO camera with the new highly IR sensitive IMX462 chip. These are both images through a ZWO methane filter (bandpass of 25nm centred on 890nm). One image is using an ASI290MM mono camera and one with the colour ASI462Mc camera. Both accumulated exposure times are the same and the results of each were processed identically. At these wavelength the ASI462Mc colour camera acts like an IR sensitive mono camera as all three filters are equally leaky.
The camera seems to be about 3x-4x more sensitive than the excellent ASI290MM at these wavelengths and the CH4 image with the ASI462 is consequently less noisy with better definition.
