About this image

A morning image of Mercury in seeing conditions that were initially good, but deteriorated during the session to the point where the image was a quivering blob. A total of 46 video sequences was captured, each of 10,000 frames, but only 17 had enough good frames to be useful in compiling the final image. Frame selection was done using PIPP and Autostakkert! 3 initially to identify the good sequences and discard a large fraction of poor frames. The final selection of around 2000 frames was made by eye from the remainder, to generate the verification images and the main image stack. The result shows a number of lighter albedo features that are in excellent agreement with a blurred Messenger image.
