About this image

David has noted that there is a famous letter "E" as large as the full Moon written in the stars. It was put there to commemorate the astronomer E.E. Barnard who discovered many dark places in the universe!  The Barnard dark nebulae are often fascinating, and it is sometimes possible in images to see the stars vanishing into the darkness at the edges of the nebula.  This is a fine example.
