AY Lac outburst over

About this image

The rare outburst of AY Lac (see here) appears to be over and the star has faded back to below 20th magnitude. It is visible, just, at the centre of the blue circle in this image. The BAA lightcurve (here) shows that it reached 14 at maximum and then faded slowly until around November 2nd when it started a rapid fade back to quiescence. The last outburst was in 1966 so it will probably be a long time until we see it bright again.
