About this image

Patchick 3 is a delicate open cluster of 20-25 stars located just ½° south of Capella, the 6th brightest star, and nearly overwhelmed by its light. My very good friend Dana Patchick discovered this on 5 February 2003 from his garden using an old Coulter 13.1" Dobsonian. His technique was to sweep around bright stars and slowly move out from them in a circular search pattern looking for anything interesting by way of star gatherings.
