About this image

In order to confirm the identity of the target as a planetary nebula additional exposures were taken using a Star Analyser 100. Stars show a continuous spectrum with absorption lines, but a planetary nebula displays bright emission lines. The emission 'lines' of oxygen and hydrogen are indicated here.

Hi Graham,

Mike.
