About this image

A crescent Mercury imaged in poor conditions: seeing was Ant III - IV. 25 videos of 10,000 frames each were captured during the session, but many had very few frames showing even the correct shape of the planet. After processing using PIPP and Registax to eliminate the worst of the data, images were selected by eye from the remainder, yielding 547 acceptable frames. The sharpened stack shows some features that agree with the degraded WinJupos version. The northern cusp is brighter, and there is an inverted darker V-shape north of the equator. The southern half of the crescent is fairly featureless.
