NGC 311: Very faint, visible only to averted vision. Slightly elongated with a brighter middle.

NGC 315: Quite bright and fairly large with averted vision. Clearly visible to direct vision. Round or slightly elongated. There is a bright centre surrounded by a fainter area with an even fainter and more difficult outer region.
