A clear evening for a change, two hours of clear skies before the clouds started rolling in again. NGC 6946 in Cepheus is about a third the size of our Galaxy and lies close to the galactic plane, and so suffers absorption of its light from interstellar gas and dust. Distance over 25 million light years
