About this image

The planetary nebula NGC2022 is, appropriately, the Deep Sky Section's 'January Object of Interest'. This mag. 11.6 object was discovered by William Herschel in December 1785. Distance c.8,200ly.

Little detail can be seen in this image, but the elliptical shape of the nebula is apparent.

Bortle 7/8, no Moon, passing cloud. Session was delayed by a hailstorm and ended as rain set in!
