Cone in Marius shield
About this image
The Marius Hills volcanic complex (MHC) is one of the largest volcanic complexes on the Moon. The diversity of the geologic features (e.g., cones, domes, rilles, lava flows) indicates that volcanic activity was very important and very complex in this area. Here i show a volcanic construct, which displays the presence of a cone superimposed on its summit. The lunar cone is located at 13.7° N and 56.84° W and I am investigating it.
The height of this cone amounts to 95 ± 10 m, the diameter is determined to 1.9 ± 0.2 km yielding an average flank slope of 5.6° ± 0.5°.
A realistic view based on NAC digital elevation-QuickMap Terrain Shadows- displays the shape of the volcanic construct of C shape (and the picture is a 3D reconstruction).
