AB Aurigae - Ha activity
About this image
AB Aurigae is a Herbig Ae star - a young, pre-main sequence star of
spectral type A with emission lines. Activity of the H-alpha emission
line was recorded using the Lhires III high resolution spectrograph
over a two-month period from 5th January 2022. There is clearly a
strong dynamic going on with sporadic appearance of a P-Cygni profile;
absorption and emission components at blue and red sides of the line
respectively. Such profiles are believed to originate in stellar
winds, and that of AB Aurigae is an active area of research [1]
In the image, the time (in days) after the first spectrum is shown in
the top left of each panel. The dotted line is the reference wavelength
for H-alpha.
