About this image

This spiral galaxy in Boӧtes was discovered by William Herschel in 1784. The image shows a hint of bar in the nucleus and two widely arched arms. The overall shape reminds me of a two-eared knock-on hubcap (if anyone is familiar with those). The galaxy is a member of the Virgo cluster.

Distance is uncertain but estimated as between 41 and 74million ly. Apparent mag. 10.2.

Bortle 7/8, no Moon, some high light cloud.
