About this image

This spiral galaxy, not dissimilar to the Milky Way, was discovered by Charles Messier in March 1781. It is a member of the Virgo Cluster. This image shows a bright nucleus with a dense central region and faintly discernible spiral arms.

Distance c.47million ly. Diameter c.105,000 ly. Apparent. mag. 10.4. 

Bortle 7/8, no Moon, some high light cloud.
