About this image

Reports came in on my FB astronomy groups of a strange, slow-moving, bright but hazy object in the sky last night.

It passed just above the SSE horizon, then directly overhead, then set just above the NNE horizon from my location (57.5N, 4.5W).  Note in my AllSkyCam images that N is right, S is left, E is top, W is bottom, & Zenith is centre.

This morning, after reviewing last night's Beinn View Observatory AllSkyCam images I found what they were referring to - just after midnight last night we were treated to the Russian Angara AM 2nd-Stage Deorbit Burn

Very pleased with this capture :)

(Note: I erroneously first reported this as the SpaceX 2nd-Stage Deorbit Burn)

Hi Eric,

I have a matching object on my video meteor cameras timed at 23:07 UT on April 29, when it was about 20 degrees above my NNW horizon. The same event?

Thanks,

Alex.

Thanks for the comment Alex.  Denis B also confirmed image capture of this event.  I initially thought (and reported) it was the SpaceX deorbit burn and have corrected as many of my posts/reports as I can.

Hope you're keeping well

Eric

Hi Eric,

Nice to see your results from your AllSky system. The activity from SpaceX, Angara and other satellite launchers shows how busy it is up there. Our skies will only get more cluttered.

Someday we'll be using Heavens Above etc to check when there's a satellite-free gap to get a quick image of a chosen field!

Cheers,

Alex.
