About this image

It it had survived this comet could have been quite a nice object under the pole. In fact the current predicted magnitude is around 7. In fact, it broke up at perihelion and all that is left is a diffuse cloud around 30 arcsec east of the predicted position. I get a total magnitude of 13.4 but the cloud is quite low surface brightness so I will currently be missing quite a bit of it. The situation will improve over the next week as it gets higher in the northern sky but the Moon will be more of a problem. It is worth trying to image if you have a good northern horizon.

Thanks Nick, that's a useful update given the predictions in the astronomy magazines.

Mike.
