About this image

May's Deep Sky Section 'Object of Interest' is the asterism called 'Napoleon's Hat' in Boӧtes. A rather nice resemblance to Napoleon's bicorne hat, which also sported a cockade perhaps represented here by the rising line of three faint stars. A fun object!

It was named by French amateur astronomer Fulbert Picot and consists of seven stars (mag.s 9.4 to 10.7) located about 40' SSW of Arcturus.

Bortle 7/8, high cloud, Moon waning gibbous 99% rising c. 21.00.
