ISS & Boeing Starliner, 20 May 2022

About this image

A favourable pass of the ISS in clear conditions but a strong jet stream. The Boeing Starliner capsule was keeping station ahead of the ISS before entering the keep-out ellipsoid in preparation for docking. At the time of the pass over the UK, Starliner was around 300 metres from the docking port on the Harmony module, which was close enough for both objects to appear in the same field.

On the previous pass in twilight, Starliner was trailing the ISS by about half a degree and both were visible to the naked eye or in binoculars.
