About this image

Mercury is now quite bright thanks to its gibbous phase, but is moving closer to the Sun. For this observation and the last few I located Mercury by offsetting from Venus, which was easy to acquire in the finder. This allowed me to start imaging Mercury before the Sun was visible rather than waiting to offset from the Sun itself, by which time the seeing would have degraded further.

The seeing was below average for this session (Ant III - IV), and the data required manual frame selection in order to reveal any of the surface features. The result agrees fairly well with a blurred version of the WinJupos map for the day.
