About this image

This visually tiny planetary nebula in Aquila was discovered by the American astronomer and physicist, E.C.Pickering, in 1882. A Hubble image shows it as a peculiar rectangular object reminiscent of the magical flying carpet . . .

MousesHouses: Flying carpetNGC 6741.tif

At a distance of c.7,000 ly and with an apparent size of 0.1', in this image this diminuitive object is hard to distinguish from its surroundings. No magic carpet can be seen. But it is there!

Bortle 7/8, light high cloud, Moon waxing gibbous 67%, nine days old.
