About this image

This small, complex, much-studied planetary nebula was discovered by Édouard Stephanin in 1878. It is exceptionally young and dense, and its true size, 0.2x0.1 ly, is significantly smaller than a 'typical' planetary nebula. Its elliptical shape can just be detected in this image. An interesting object!

Apparent dimensions 16"x12". Distance c.3,000ly. Age c.600years. Apparent mag. 10.0.
