About this image

Sh1-118 is an HII emission nebula in Cassiopeia with a confused identity crisis. It was in Stewart Sharpless's 1953 catalog as an emission nebula, but dropped from his second catalog as it was then believed to be a planetary nebula.  More recently it has been confirmed that it is NOT a planetary nebula.  It is 164 arc seconds in diameter.  It is estimated to be around 4,000 light years away, and around 3 light years across.
Data captured on my dual rig at Fregenal de la Sierra in Southern Spain.
Data captured between 15-21 August 2022.
