About this image

NGC1502 is a class II3p open cluster in Camelopardalis.  It was discovered by William Herschel in November 1787.

I have made numerous attempts this year to obtain a decent image of this cluster using the Unistellar - Jan 01: 4mins exp., Jan 11: 11mins, Jan 14: 7 mins, Oct 28: 8sec., 32sec., 60sec. - but for some reason without a satisfactory result. So I have used the COAST in Tenerife to obtain this image. The two bright stars are the visual binary ADS2984/Struve485, mags 6.99 7.29. sep.17.9", major components of a multiple star system and the main source of my dissatisfaction with my previous images.

The distance of this cluster is uncertain. Some sources give a figure of c.3,500ly, but I have also come across estimates as large as 12,000ly.
