This mag. 13 spiral galaxy in Andromeda gives its name to a group of around twenty galaxies. It was discovered by Lewis Swift in September 1885 using a 16" refractor.

This second image shows the galaxy in its wider setting.

Distance c.235million ly. Size c.115,000ly.

Bortle 7/8, full Moon 15 days old.
