About this image

This barred spiral galaxy in Triangulum was discovered by William Herschel in September 1784. It is a member of the NGC1023 galaxy group, and hosts two ultraluminous Xray (ULX) sources, which is unusual.

Distance c.30million ly. Apparent mag. 10.1.

Bortle 7/8, cold (-5˚C).
