About this image

The form of this comet changes from hour-to-hour. The ion tail this morning is much fainter and more chaotic. In this log stretch the dust tail is the broad feature from PA 350 - PA 310. The ion tail emerges in PA 280 and then splits and forms a broad region from PA 300 - PA 270. In the Larson-Sekanina filtered inset, which is at the same scale as the main image, several outflows are visible in the inner coma, in particular outflows at PA 300, 185 and 40 deg.
