About this image

This is our object of interest for January. It is a somewhat tricky target from my location since I have to wait for it to rise sufficiently to clear the low-elevation murk. Even so, image processing took a little time to eliminate some of the soupy sky background.

This is the first outing of my RC10 scope since I dismantled it to fully understand how the primary mirror holder worked, painted the edge of the mirror black to eliminate spurious reflections, turned the fans around so that they suck down the tube rather than blow into the back of the mirror and collimated using a Takahashi collimation scope. Image processing followed my new workflow of Astro Pixel Processor for calibration, Pixinsight for spectro-photometric colour calibration and deconvolve with BlurXterminator. I assembled the final LRGB image in Photoshop.
