About this image

Part of Markarian's Chain of galaxies, these two are known as Copeland's Eyes. The great disturbance in NGC 4438 is thought to be due to interaction with an intruder galaxy and not with NGC 4436 which is not immediately adjacent according to red-shift analysis.
