About this image

SkAc 1
This is the first ever colour image of SkAc 1, an incredibly faint and obscure planetary nebula.  It is located in the constellation Bootes - which has very few planetary nebulae. It measures approximately 1.5 arcminutes. It was first discovered as a galaxy in 1992 but was found to be a planetary nebula in 1993 by Brian Skiff and Agnes Acker. Its central star is a binary star system.
