This mag. 10.4 elliptical galaxy in Leo was discovered by William Herschel in Apr 1784. It is a member of the M96 galaxy group.

This image shows the galaxy as a small, bright ovoid core set in a broader, faint, elongated band.

Distance c.26million ly. Diameter c.40,000ly.

Bortle 7/8, intermittent cloud.
