About this image

This spiral galaxy in Virgo was discovered by William Herschel in February 1786. It is a member of the Virgo Cluster.

The image shows little sign of structure, the galaxy looking more like an elliptical than a spiral.

Distance c.111million ly. Diameter c.90,000ly. Apparent mag. 11.7.

Bortle 7/8, intermittent cloud.
