About this image

When the Sun is a few degrees below the northern horizon it enables our view of NLC (noctilucent clouds). This is a most welcome sight and studies of them are of importance to atmospheric scientists. The relatively low angled Sun is currently highlighting the constellations of artificial satellites.

This composite stack was obtained between 00:49 and 00:55 UT. Slow-moving objects appeared at 00:49 and moved upwards in the field of view. Others repeated this motion over the next few minutes, with them appearing in twos or threes, each further left in the field. (Thanks to William Stewart for identifying the 'culprits').

Will this summer bring combined displays of aurorae, NLC and satellite clusters?
