About this image
Second contact, mid eclipse and third contact images of the 2023 April 20 TSE from Exmouth, WA. These are extracted from 25fps 1080p HDR video shot using a Sony A7s Mk 1 camera body. Each image is a stack of video frames (25 for the contacts and 100 for the mid-eclipse) aligned in Auto-Stakkert and then lightly processed in Photoshop. This setup works really well but for the next eclipse I need to get hold of the Mk.3 A7s body since that does 4K video with 10-bit video encoding. It should produce really spectacular eclipse video.
An edited video from this setup and a Go Pro is here.

One of the best total eclipses of the 19 I've seen. But why when it was so short?
That is because it was so short! The Moon barely covered the Sun showing prominences emanating from the surface all around. To me, this enhanced the blackness of the centre, almost looking into a black hole to infinity in the middle.
