About this image
Another evening with a window of some slightly above average seeing in the half hour or so following sunset. Collected 4x3min imaging captures of Venus using the 10" f/6 Newtonian and the Astrodon UVenus filter + IR blocking. Used PIPP to cull the top 10% of the roughly 56K frames for processing in Autostakkert3 with 1.5x drizzle applied. Worked the resulting image in Registax6 and refined in PS to yield the attached image.
As an experiment before moving on to IR capture I popped in the 2.5x Televue Powermate to see for myself what sort of impact it'd have. It was significant; even though the image was larger there was a drop in detail. Whereas before the cusp caps were noticeable on the screen, now they could not be seen. Although the seeing may have deteriorated a little it still couldn't account for that large of a difference, so for my setup the Barlow is a detriment.
For the IR I did 3x3min captures using an Astronomik 742nm filter with similar processing as above. No cloud detail visible, just a classic Venusian cue ball. So far I've not really had much luck getting any details in IR - maybe I need a different filter?
