Five wavelength SHG animation 21 May 2023

About this image

Home built SHG using 135mm (collimator) and 150mm (imaging lens) SLR Pentax lenses and 2400l/mm grating (25x25mm) was used to capture scans of the solar disk in Calcium K,Hydrogen beta,Magnesium,Sodium D2 and Hydrogen alpha. Since scope has a focal length of 900mm two scans are needed to capture the whole of the Sun. This gif is only showing the northern hemisphere and the flaring activity around sunspot grouping AR 3313,3311 and 3314 near the north eastern limb. These are single scans (no stacking) and minimal processing (slight noise removal and resizing of images to keep file size down). 16x sidereal speed was used to force the scan.
