Title

SN 2023ixf low resolution spectrum

About this image

A low resolution (R~500) spectrum showing emission features from H,He,C,N similar to the earlier confirming spectrum from LT/SPRAT but with a significantly bluer/hotter continuum. A fit to a black body curve gives a temperature of ~18000K. The supernova identification program SNID gives a match to SN 1998S, a type IIn The n designates narrow spectral emission lines thought to be generated by the explosion expanding into pre-existing circumstellar material.

The spectrum is available to download from the BAA spectroscopy database
