About this image

This is the main building - the Sinas Building - of the Athens National Observatory. Built in 1842-46, it was designed by the Danish architect Theophil Hansen and financed by Greek-Austrian banker Georgios Sinas. It was closed at the time of my visit but is accessible to visitors.

It is currently home to: the Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing; Institute for Environmental Research and Sustainable Development; and the Institute of Geodynamics.
