About this image

Mars is becoming a serious challenge to observe. I was hesitant to add details to this drawing apart from the polar cap, as I do not consider the pair of dark markings reliable. I saw hints of them more than once, but Mars is now sufficiently small that seeing effects and floaters in my eye could be tricking me.

This drawing was made just after sunset, against a bright sky. This gave the advantage that Mars was higher in the sky at the expense of lower contrast against a brighter sky.
