About this image

This large, irregular, loose cluster contains only about a dozen relatively bright stars. It was discovered by Phillipe de Cheseaux in 1745, though 'lost' for almost 150 years.

Distance c.1000ly. Diameter c.8ly. Age c.6-700million yrs.

Bortle 7/8. Persistent high cloud.
