About this image

This barred spiral galaxy was discovered by Albert Marth in June 1863. The galaxy is inclined 47˚to the line of sight.

The image shows the nucleus, with the bar rising almost vertically. Faint indications of the surrounding disk and arms can be seen.

Distance c.77million ly. Diameter c.138,000ly. Apparent size c.6.2' x 4.1'.

Bortle 7/8. Intermittent cloud.
