About this image

These galaxies eluded the Herschels and were discovered by Heinrich d'Arrest in September 1863. He was using an 11" (275mm) refractor.

NGC 6703 (centre) is a mag. 11 lenticular galaxy. Distance c.87.9million ly.

NGC 6702 (upper right) is a mag. 12 elliptical galaxy. Distance c.195.5million ly.

Bortle 7/8. Persistent high cloud.
