About this image

HD79872, aka WDS 09174+2339, is a bright double star in Cancer. The primary is mag 7.87 and the secondary 8.12. Their separation is 5.9 arc seconds and the pixels, which are easily visible in the images, are 0.7 arcsec across.

The upper image has an exposure time of 0.1 seconds and the lower 1.0 seconds. No processing has been applied, other than setting the black and white points.

It is apparent how taking short exposures freezes the seeing and gives better resolution.
