About this image

Three days before opposition so transits and shadow transits of Io occur together. The seeing was poor (Ant IV) at the start of the session and improved to average Ant III - II around the midpoint of the transit before degrading again. Io can just be seen at 2 o'clock from the shadow and almost in contact with it, as a brighter line with darker regions above and below.
