About this image

This loose (Class III2p) open cluster in Ophiuchus was discovered by the Swiss astronomer Phillipe de Chéseaux in 1745. Unfortunately for him, having presented his observations to the Académie des sciences in 1746, they were promptly forgotten for the following 150 years. 

Distance c.1,400ly. Apparent mag. 4.2.

Bortle 7/8, intermittent cloud.
