About this image
Just before closing down for the night I did my occasional "Lets image a random comet" thing. 144P was the target this time - its usually something not too far from the previous object I imaged.
It was visible in the individual frames and appeared to me to have a slight coma. Looking at a growth curve of the stacked image suggested this was probably true. Some simplistic photometry suggest a mag of 16.3 (unfiltered and using Gaia g stars to develop a Zp for the image).
I think JPL Horizons said it should be 17+ but thats not going to be an unfiltered magnitude...

Good to see you imaging comets! Compare with the images in the Comet Section archive here. My last observation on November 6th had it as 16.7 (unfiltered vs Gaia G) but it is brightening.
If you want to submit comet images to the archive please see the instructions here. The archive should still be around in 50 years when this website is long gone...
I need to tweak my asteroid/NEO/variable star reduction code to handle the photometry properly for comets. Will have a look at the correct reporting for magnitudes too.
