About this image

This Class IV1p open cluster in Taurus was discovered in December 1785 by William Herschel. It lies close to open cluster NGC 1750 but is physically unrelated to it, being c.500ly more distant. With relatively few stars, all of similar magnitude, quite widely spread, it is not easily distinguished from its setting.

Distance c.2,450ly. Size c.7ly. Imaged using the COAST, Tenerife.
