About this image

This sparse (about 50 stars) open cluster (Class III2m) in Puppis was discovered by Giovanni Hodierna before 1654, but the record was lost. Caroline Herschel rediscovered it in 1783. This COAST image shows it to good effect.

Apparent mag. 4.2. Distance c.1,600ly. Age c.78million yrs.
